I am no idol or icon,
No role model or example.
I am just me, not who
You want me to be.
I may be the yardstick
By which you are judged
But this yardstick
Has a mind of its own
And its own faults.
No icons n my life,
I follow none;
And hopefully
No one follows me.
For I’m not perfect:
I’m just human,
With all my faults
And emotions intact.
I may be the mirror
That people use
To see who you are.
But this mirror
Has its own emotion
And its hidden flaws,
No mute mirror am I,
For everyone reflected in me
Is marred and distorted
By my personal biases.
